Dear fellow wanderers,

Today, I’m thrilled to share with you my recent solo adventure to the charming town of Saugatuck, Michigan. This quaint river side haven along the West Coast of Michigan , proved to be the perfect escape for a woman seeking both relaxation and cultural enrichment.
My journey began with a visit to the vibrant Saugatuck Farmers Markethttps://sc4a.org/event/summer-market/, where I indulged in the season’s freshest produce and artisanal goods. The market is held every Friday , starting in late May until the end of September can be found at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. The market’s lively atmosphere and friendly vendors set the tone for my entire trip. The croissants from North Beach Bakery https://thenorthbeachbakery.com/rivals those found in France.

For a touch of European flair, I couldn’t resist picking up a French picnic basket from the delightful Lulu Cadieuxhttps://www.lulucadieux.com/. Packed with gourmet treats and my beloved jambon – buerre , it made for the perfect companion as I lounged on the shores of Lake Michigan at Oval beach, savoring both the delectable contents and the breathtaking views.
For a bit of fun and adventure, I decided to take in a dune ride in Saugatuck Dunes State Parkhttps://www.saugatuckduneride.com/. An opened air modified truck allows for great view for everyone. As we traversed the sandy landscape, I felt the wind in my hair, the sun on my face and a sense of deep appreciation for the area’s unique natural beauty. It’s an experience I highly recommend for those seeking a bit of adventure and history of the area.
No trip to Saugatuck is complete without a visit to The Book Nookhttps://www.booknooksaugatuck.com/. As an avid reader, I was in heaven perusing their extensive collection. I found the perfect cozy murder mystery to accompany me back to my accommodation, the enchanting Judson Heath Colonial Innhttps://judsonheath.com/

Speaking of which, the Inn proved to be a highlight of my stay. Innkeeper Jen’s warm hospitality and culinary prowess shone through in the fabulous breakfasts she prepared each morning. The breakfast table became a hub of engaging conversations with fellow guests, adding a delightful social element to my solo trip. I also appreciate the “behind the scenes” tour and fell in love with the kitchen.
For those inclined towards wine tasting, a visit to the Fenn Valley Tasting Roomhttps://www.fennvalley.com/ is a must. Their selection of locally produced wines offers a delightful glimpse into Michigan’s burgeoning wine scene.
Art enthusiasts will find themselves spoilt for choice with Saugatuck’s numerous galleries. Each one showcases a unique array of local and regional talent, perfect for an afternoon of cultural exploration.
As the day wound down, I treated myself to a delicious dinner at Bowdies.https://bowdieschophouse.com/locations/saugatuck/ I recommend the grilled Ceasar, filet, with a side of the potato au gratin, complimented with a lovely glass of Bordeaux. The cool summer evening, coupled with a stunning sunset and the emerging starry sky, created an ambiance that was nothing short of magical.

Before departing, I made sure to stop by The Butler’s Pantrhttps://thebutlerpantry.com/y for their renowned warm chocolate chip cookies. These heavenly treats were the perfect sweet ending to my Saugatuck sojourn. They also have a great selection of every possible kitchen gadget you could want as well as spices, jams, and wine.
Saugatuck proved to be an ideal destination for the solo female traveler – safe, welcoming, and brimming with activities that cater to various interests. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, cultural experiences, or culinary delights, this charming town has it all.
Until our next adventure, happy and safe travels!
